Epicurio ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Epicurio mobile application (the "App").

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

Account information (email address, display name) when you create an account
Journal entries, reflections, desires, joy moments, and reframe notes you create in the App
Photos you choose to attach to journal entries (premium users only)
Intentions and preferences you set during onboarding
Challenge participation data and check-ins
Notification preferences

Information collected automatically:

App usage events (e.g. features used, screens visited) — collected anonymously via Firebase Analytics
Crash reports and diagnostic data — collected via Sentry to help us fix bugs
Device type, operating system version, and app version

Anonymous usage: You may use Epicurio without creating an account. In this case, an anonymous identifier is created locally to store your data. You can later link an Apple or Google account to sync and back up your data.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide, maintain, and improve the App and its features
To personalize your experience (e.g. weekly insights, guided reflections)
To send local notifications you've opted into (reminders, weekly summaries)
To process your membership and referral rewards
To diagnose and fix crashes and technical issues
To understand how features are used so we can improve the App

We do not use your journal entries, desires, or personal reflections to train AI models or for advertising purposes. Your personal content is yours.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following trusted third-party services to operate the App:

Google Firebase — authentication, database (Firestore), file storage, and analytics. Firebase Privacy Policy

OpenAI — used to generate your weekly insight summary. Only anonymised, aggregated data (mood stats and anonymised sample snippets) is sent. No personally identifiable information is shared. OpenAI Privacy Policy
Apple / Google — sign-in and, for premium subscribers, in-app purchase processing

We do not sell your data to any third party.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely in Google Firebase infrastructure (EU region). Access to your data is protected by Firebase Security Rules — only you can read and write your own data. Photos are stored in Firebase Storage and are only accessible by your account.

We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, but no system is 100% secure. We encourage you to use a strong password and enable device-level security.

5. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is permanently deleted from our servers within 30 days. You can request account deletion at any time by contacting us at the address below.

6. Children's Privacy

Epicurio is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
Correction — request correction of inaccurate data
Deletion — request deletion of your data
Portability — request your data in a portable format
Objection — object to certain processing of your data

8. International Users

Epicurio is operated from the European Union. If you access the App from outside the EU, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data protection laws. By using the App, you consent to this transfer.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through an in-app notice. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
